The Sunshine State: America’s Most Desired Place to Live

Many Americans have mixed feelings about where they live. While many say they like the place they call home, others feel frustrated or embarrassed by their state. Nearly six in ten Americans live where they’ve always lived, and a majority of them are open to moving to more desirable areas. However, half of those willing to relocate say they can’t afford to move to their preferred location. When considering a move, Americans prioritize low crime, good weather, affordable living, and low taxes, which explains why Tampa, Florida, is ranked the most desirable city in the U.S.

Tampa’s appealing quality of life, diversity, and welcoming community contribute to this title. Tampa has a median home value of $361,177, making it more affordable than other Florida hot spots like Miami or Orlando. Florida, with many of its large and midsize metros, surpasses California, Hawaii, and New York in attractiveness due to its lower taxes and cost of living. While California and New York also rank among the top five desirable states, some of their largest cities are less appealing due to high crime rates and expensive living costs.
